WASHINGTON – In a sign that she may be moving closer to a Kentucky Senate bid, actress and activist Ashley Judd had a meeting earlier this week with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

That’s according to reports a short time ago by POLITICO, The Hill and National Journal.

The news organizations quoted sources.

DSCC spokesman Matt Canter declined to comment when we asked him.

“We aren’t commenting on recruitment,” he said in an e-mail to The Courier-Journal.

Judd’s publicist could not be reached for comment.

The DSCC would responsible for raising at least some of the millions of dollars Judd would require to mount a credible challenge to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who is seeking a sixth term next year.

Judd has said she is considering a run but has set no timeline. Rep. John Yarmuth, D-3rd District, said recently that she is telling people privately she will make a decision before the Kentucky Derby, which is May 4.

Judd met last week with potential Kentucky donors at the Louisville home of Christy Brown, the widow of Jack Daniel’s whiskey magnate Owsley Brown II. Yarmuth was also there and confirmed the meeting through spokesman Stephen George.

Judd also seems to be hinting at her mind-set on Twitter.

Earlier today, one of her followers tweeted this: “‘@AshleyJudd has never run for office, something that we have found often produces underachieving candidates,’ says @fivethirtyeight.”

To which Judd tweeted: “And every candidate must have their first race. No incumbent began as an incumbent.”
